Walter

Walter finished Form 4 at Hagati Secondary School in a rural community. Her father passed away and her mother is a cassava farmer. Walter and two of her younger siblings live with their grandparents, who take care of them, but are elderly so they have a hard time doing so. Walter excels at Hagati Secondary, where she was 15th in her school in 2011’s Form Two national exams.

Fatuma

Fatuma attended Teacher’s Training College in Kitangali, where she was 4th in her class of 280 students. She is now working as a primary school teacher. She passed her form four exams in 2008 with a Division IV of 27 points. Her family depends on farming to support her and her siblings. Her father was recently evicted from his house due to a court case that he has been appealing, which has used a lot of their resources. At her school, she was the Head Prefect and also played soccer and netball on the school teams.

Hamzuruni

Hamzuruni studied at Mkwawa University College of Education. He finished Form 6 at Ndanda Secondary School. He was seventh in his school in 2008’s form four exams, with a division III of 25 points.

James

James studied at Tumaini University College of Iringa. He finished Form 6 at Ocean Secondary School and is awaiting his national exam results. He finished Form 4 in 2008 with a 25 (Division III), placing 7th in his school. He is an orphan from Namkomolela village. In addition to his studies, he enjoys playing soccer. Between Form 4 and Form 5 he was working as a volunteer teacher at Lyenje Secondary School to earn money to pay for his further education.

Karimu

Karimu studied at Mtwara Teachers’ Training College to become a secondary school teacher. He finished Form 6 at Ndanda Secondary School. He was seventh in his school in 2008’s form four exams, with a division III of 25 points.
