Olga studied at Mkwawa University College of Education. She completed Form 6 at Kiuta Secondary. She finished her O-level studies at Hagati Secondary in the Hagati valley, near Mbinga. Her father is a catechist, earning a small stipend of $18 per month to support their family of five. Apart from farming, her mother also helps weave mats to make some money, but the amount is not enough to cover all of Olga’s fees. They are small scale coffee farmers, but barely harvest enough to cover their expenses. Olga hopes to one day be a nurse so that she will be able to help her family out.
Paulina studied at Mtwara Public Service College. She successfully completed a course in computers at Eremi Computer Centre in Mtwara. She passed her form four exams in 2008. Her family emigrated from Mozambique in the 1960s to escape the war for independence there. Her parents are in poor health and she is only the second of seven children to attend secondary school. She participated in a school trip to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro and started as a defender on the girls’ soccer team. She also held the position of prefect for Sports and Games in the student government and was involved with the school’s health club.
Prisca studied at Msamala Secondary School in Songea, where she finished Form 4. She lives with her mother, who is a subsistence farmer. Her father passed away. She is the fifth of seven children. Despite her circumstances, she is striving to succeed in her studies so that she will be able to help her family in the future.
Rafia obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Accountancy at The Tanzanian Institute of Accountancy in Mbeya. She completed Form 6 at London Secondary School in Songea, where she studied Economics, Geography and Mathematics. She finished Form 4 at Ruvuma Secondary School near Songea. Her father has passed away. She lives with her mother in a rented house. Her mother sells tea to make a living.
Sabina finished Form 4 at Mikalanga Secondary School. She continued her education at Taifa Foundation Secondary School.
